Mikes Blog-What's Happenin'?

Week 8th June 2009

Must have been busy Haven't spoken to you for a month. I'vr been tied up with filming and editing Imagine You Can - that's a performing arts and media training project aimed at young people. We teach them a full show to be performed usually at the area's sporting club or local theatre. It incorporates singers, dancers, marketing and media students who learn the in's and out's of how professional shows are put together and marketed. I teach the students aged between 12 - 16 camerawork, audio, lighting and touch on editing. The school we've just been working with is Eston Park School in Middlesbrough. The show was performed last Saturday at Odsal Stadium in front of an 8,000+ crowd. My job was to make sure the event was filmed by the students with 3 cameras. Everything went very well and both the students and the Bradford Bulls fans seem to enjoy it especially as they beat the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats after a bad spell in the SuperLeague.

Week 11th May 2009

Had a nice holiday in Turkey. On Tues (12th) shot an ad for a Canadian firm called BIZCLIP as a freelancer, filming only, no editing required and then posted the tape off to Canada for them to complete. Thursday night was boxing night at Elland Road for Mark Bateson and Kevin Spratt of West Yorkshire Sporting Club. The night was a bit different as Leeds United were playing their play off semi 2nd leg at home against Millwall and it was being shown live on the big screens which made John Conteh's job a little difficult as he tried to entertain the guests with his after dinner patter.

Week 20th April 2009

This week I have updated the news, music, business & entertainment sections of this website. I just need to sort out the Live events page and the lighting videos which are still flash files running from my server. I completed editing the Kirklees Eco driving video this week and a sample can be seen on the business samples page.

Week 13th April 2009

This week I have two filming jobs with BIG-TV, One in Coventry and one in Blackpool. I should be able to let you see what there all about a little later in the week. I'm updating my website at the moment, taking all the flash video off and replacing it with embedded video from my vimeo site. The reason being it makes the site function a lot quicker and the video is better to look at as it's hi def 1280 x 720p files, makes sense from all angles I think. The News samples page is complete if you want to compare the difference.

Week 6th April 2009

Completed editing an internal DVD for Kirklees Highways. The idea of it is to teach employees how to drive safely and at the same time save money on fuel. The runtime is about 40 mins and it was filmed in high definaition on my Sony EX1.

Also completed editing a short hairdressing video filmed last week for J & M's in Halifax. The completed advert which runs for one minute will be shown on several websites to increase business and customer awareness.

J & M's hairdresser in Halifax. Shot on Sony EX1 and graded with Magic Bullett Looks.
